The Sydney surf lifesaving community is a diverse one and welcomes people from all walks of life. There are a number of events and initiatives each year that are launched with aim of increasing awareness and acceptance for everyone on the beach.

This month, the Pride Surf Rescue Board is being launched in conjunction with Sydney World Pride, which kicks off on February 18th. John Baker ESM, President of Surf Life Saving Australia, said “The Pride Surf Rescue Board is a visible sign of progress and acceptance for everyone on the beach.”

Surf lifesaving has a strong culture of acceptance and commitment to welcoming new members with open arms. Lifesavers With Pride is just one organisation dedicated to promoting this, and they represent lifesavers across the entire rainbow community.

Surf Lifesaving Australia is committed to increasing accessibility and awareness for the LGBTQ community within lifesaving, and is committed to:

  • Engaging with LGBTQ stakeholders and the community
  • Raising awareness internally
  • Providing pathway opportunities
  • Creating equal opportunities through community events.

At Niche Tenant Advisory, we’re incredibly proud to work with Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club, and the larger surf lifesaving community, along with the rainbow community within and outside surf lifesaving. We donated the boards for the pride boards movement, and we’re also a member of SGLBA, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association. SGLBA provides a safe forum for rainbow businesses to connect and work together, and has a long history as a safe space. We’re incredibly proud to be part of such a community, and look forward to Pride Week.
